Dinner Tonight - Curry Udon...So easy to make!

Curry Udon

I usually take a couple of  hours in the kitchen making our dinners, but sometimes I find stuff that is quick and easy...it usually has to do with using leftovers;o)  This is another dish that I grew up with.  My mom would make it for lunch the day after we would have Kare Rice (Curry Rice) for dinner.  I froze the  Chicken Curry I had made a couple of weeks ago and used that as the base.

All I did was thaw the curry in a sauce pan then added:  water, soy sauce, mirin, & Menmi (Japanese Noodle/Tempura Sauce Base).  Next, I chopped up some carrots, daikon & eringi mushrooms and cooked it for about 10 - 15 mins, boiled up some udon noodles, put it in a bowl and topped it with some sliced green onions.  It's one the easiest dishes to make, well, as long as you have leftover curry ;o)

  1. Oishisou!!! Me too, I actually look forward to curry udon than curry rice. My mom's curry wasn't soupy curry, it was more like どろっとした texture (sorry if you can't read Japanese, but I really don't know how to say in English... thick? but that sounds too simple). Whenever I see someone makes curry, I don't know why but I feel like making one for myself. Our tomorrow night dinner could be really curry. :-D

  2. Thanks, Nami! It's been a long time since I made Kare Udon. I'm glad I made it, it was so good :o)

    I can read ONLY Hiragana and I can speak Japanese, but it's very rusty!

  6. I fell in love with Japanese curry after my first try at Sake Sushi resturant here in Singapore about nearly 10yrs back! I ordered curry Udon and it was so delicious! I love the mild sweet taste in Japanese curry which is so much different from all the curries here.
    So happy that I can learn to cook my own Japanese curry now! Tks for sharing KEcker! :D

    Chopin, yes, more subtle, but someone who is used to Indian curry may not like this;o) You gotta give it a try once!

    Thanks Angie, problem with udon is that it's not a warm weather type of food, but I could eat it anytime :o)

  16. I have been tempted to start making noodles at home but have been so intimidated. I am not good with baking and my attempts at other homemade dough type things like green onion pancake, roti, etc have been utter flops. I love you video and I think you have inspired me to try these udon noodles at home! Wish me luck!
