Our Tour de France...May 2010...Part 4, Pizzeria Arceaux, Biarritz, France

I know it seems a little strange to get pizza in France, but I love the way they make it!  I especially like how they can put a fried egg in the middle! The first time I had this type of pizza was about 18 years ago in Tahiti. I'm not even sure how I ended up at a Pizza joint on the beach, but it was one of the best pizzas I'd ever had! It was pepperoni with a crispy thin crust and a fried egg in the middle.  They had a bottle of olive oil infused with chile peppers and I loved all of it. When I got home I tried to replicate it by making the infused olive oil and trying to add an egg to a Domino's pizza...both were not successful...lol Nowadays, some gourmet pizza places like Pizzeria Mozza have pizzas with the egg on top.  Next time I make a pizza at home, I'm going to see if adding the egg will work;o)

Pizzeria Arceaux, Biarritz, France

Tossing the Dough...

I think I found this restaurant in one of my food guides and it was close to our hotel.  It was a very cute place with red checkered table cloths.  It was a very casual and family friendly type of place.

The Oil...

It has just enough kick in it to flavor the pizza, it's luscious using just a few drops;o)  It's so simple, but so perfect!

House Salad

Sometimes the simplest things are the best.  This just had Serrano Ham, Olive, Tomatoes, Endive with a house Italian Dressing.

Margherita with Chorizo and Egg

This one was obviously mine with the egg on top :o)  The Chorizo was their version of Pepperoni, it was so good and crispy!  I love how you can get egg on so many things in France, I love sliced hard boiled egg in sandwiches and Croque Madames with the Fried Egg on top.  I'm not sure why not many American restaurants use eggs except for breakfast.  It is catching on more now though...

Olives & Anchovies

Hubby's pizza...  Anchovies are too fishy for me on a pizza.  A little in a Caesar Salad is good for me, but not on pizza :o)

Pistachio Ice Cream with Chantilly

I love how they call their Whipped Cream Chantilly, it just sounds so much more elegant!  This probably came out of a can, but it was so much better than our Redi-Whip!

I used to go home whenever I have a break, then I married and had kids in a year. I totally missed the chance. Thank you for sharing the story!

Nami, I'm sure that you will get a chance to travel as your kids get older. Since we have no children it is easy for us to to on vacations. France is my favorite. When I was little we would always go to Japan for summer vacation to be with family, so I know exactly what you are talking about!
